Exclamation 1999 ZX9R Oil leak

Ok so I recently got a 1999 zx9r. It was over heating so I decided to go ahead and replace the thermostat and radiator cap, and coolant. Well in the process me and my roommate (not know much about bikes) ended up taking off what I am assuming is the water pump. There was never a oil leak at all. I first noticed it when we left the water pump case off in order for it to dry so I could replace the seal. Well after putting it all back together it still leaks oil!! Not a lot a lot but enough to notice and in about a week drain most of the oil out of my bike. My question is does this sound like maybe just a bad seal on the water pump? I can upload pictures of where the leak is if that would help. Any help/advice would be very very appreciated. Thanks again.
