Problem found. I hope!
Did this before & I was told by the breakdown service that the problem was either the battery or the alternator so got the new battery, had it serviced & the problem - supposedly - sorted. The mechanic at the repair shop said it was down to a dirty n corroded fuel pump. As I only bought the bike in October n hadn't really done many miles, other than riding it back from Kent in horrible weather, I thought that it was a feasible diagnosis. Obviously when it happned again I started to doubt that the blasted mechanic had even looked at the altenator, a view I'm sure of now as I don't think he took any of the side panels of the fairing off. Anyhow the problem appears to be 2 wires attached to the regulator that had snapped at the connectors. Have fixed them n the voltage coming off the battery is now what it is supposed to be. Fingers X'd that is it but won't know 4 certain till I go on another decent run. If it isn't the problem I will be back on sometime nxt wk........ If it is solved I will post my overwhelming joy lol!
Thanks 2 everyone who has helped x
p.s. The mechanic was at Speedwells in Radcliffe - Manchester, England. So be warned those of you who live in the north-west UK.

ZXR750 H2 (1990) - charging system.
Totally confused! Full service & new battery but bike dies after trips over 25miles if go above 5,000rpm, power drain increases the higher the revs (wots the use of havin a sportsbike if u can't use all that power & handling!). Have checked out using a voltmeter test n problem seems to be coming from alternator (pushing out from 0.5 to 1 volt,or so it appears) but it has a new belt. Obviously a new alternator is last option I want so thought I'd check out regulator or rectifier. A parts site states that this model has both & even shows nice photos of them but no matter how much I search I can't find anything that resembles them on my bike. Can anyone point me in the right direction re: where they are located n if they could be causing the problem as it seems logical that the AC isn't being either - altered to DC & sent to battery (alternator prob), or - not being sent in right amount (regulator/rectifier prob); or does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks
